| “There isn’t a lot that can be said about the Dnepr exhaust system. It consists of two header pipes, two silencers, four hangars and a cross over or equalizer pipe. On the MT-16 there is an additional piece called a receiver, which turns the dual exhaust into a single exhaust system. From what I am told it tends to rob the bike of power and only the most diehard of restorationists keep this system. It will do no harm to convert to a dual exhaust system.” | |

WHAT I DO KNOW ABOUT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM |

There isn’t much to say about the exhaust system. I do know that my system does not have a cross over or equalizer pipe. It runs perfectly well without one, and I used a step down pipe to allow me to use Harley Davidson aftermarket mufflers because they looked much better in my opinion. Where the header pipe meets the cylinder head, I have used a pair of finned heat diffusers similar to the ones shown between the header pipe and the silencer in the accompanying diagrams. I do know that this is a great asset in keeping the top end cool and is highly recommended. I used the rod that goes through the frame and engine crankcase to mount my pipe hangers (ear) to the frame, but I have no idea if that is the recommended location to mount them. I did not have any seal rings in my exhaust, but I would think that they are necessary if you are using stock silencers. I welded my mufflers to the adapter plates, and used the ears to clamp off the area where the header pipe went into the step down flange which in turn went into the mufflers.
