THE FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY
CARDAN THE MAGNIFICENT AND THE FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY.

The final drive assembly consists of the cardan Shaft and Joint, the Differential Drive if you have upgraded to the 2 wheel drive setup, and the Reduction Gear.  This chapter will be divided into the three groups, but if you are operating a single wheel drive outfit or a solo machine you can pretty much ignore the section on the Differential Drive.

REMOVAL OF THE FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY

To remove the final drive assembly including the cardan shaft you must first place the motorcycle onto the center stand or jack, and remove the rear wheel.  Next you undo the rear brake link nut which is a part of the brake lever assembly.  Now you remove the nuts and studs which attach the final drive to the rear swingarm on the R.H. side at the rear.  Remove the flexible coupling plate from the cardan shaft so that the shaft will fit through the hole in the swingarm assembly.  You remove the final drive assembly by taking it off of the end and pulling to the rear of the motorcycle.

If you have a 2 wheel drive with a differential mechanism when you remove the final drive out the rear of the motorcycle you will need to maneuver the assembly with the cardan shaft to the right

When you replace the final drive assembly be sure that the gap between the plates and the flexible coupling are between 3mm – 6mm on each side.  Adjustment of the gap is made by moving the stopper ring in the cardan shaft grooves with the link pin in its middle position
